Our COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS meets every Thursday from 6–8 p.m.
We have three study focuses for whatever scripture we’re studying – methodically and systematically reading through the Word of God:
• What does it SAY?
• What does it MEAN?
• How can I APPLY it to MY life?
Our Bible Study Group has been meeting regularly over the years to explore, understand, and enjoy the riches of God’s Word. In the past, we have examined themes such as Christian Living in the Book of James, topics like Social Justice in Amos, the challenging subjects of Heaven and Hell, that great story of God’s saving grace for a lost world which we know today as Salvation History, Paul’s most comprehensive theology in Romans, Lessons in Leadership for Daily Living from Nehemiah.
More recently, our group – which has varied in number from a handful to over 20, and has now settled down to 10-12 every week – walked through Paul’s magnificent treatise on the church, the Book of Ephesians. And before that, during Lent last year, we took a ‘discipleship journey’ from Galilee to Jerusalem by reading devotionally through the Gospel of Mark, with the writer’s “sandwich story-telling technique” providing us with plenty of food for thought!
Other study areas have included ‘fundamentals of the Christian faith’ – as found on the Alpha course – and last, but by no means least, Bible Study Methods (especially Inductive Bible Study study) to discover
what the Word of the Lord says, discern
what our Maker and Master means, and determine
to do God’s will as we find it in holy writ.
These studies are conducted by our teacher of nine years, Wijith DeChickera, BTh, MA, in the Church proper at times or in the Parish Hall as usual. There is usually a short time of prayer for personal needs to begin with… and often light refreshments (as well as great fellowship) follow!
HAPPY AND HOLY
There’s something for every worshipper here… for when we meet in church, we sing hymns and choruses in praise of God – and there’s an opportunity for “testimony time” for disciples who want to witness and encourage others.
